Explained ยท eSIM

Roll out business eSIMs without manual work for IT

An eSIM should be the easiest part of a new phone. In practice it is often a ticket, a code someone requests from the operator and forwards, and a service desk talking someone through it. And it happens again with each new colleague, each new device and each lost phone.

With Valvarius by RoamIQ, the telecom management portal, employees can activate their subscription themselves. IT no longer has to request and forward codes.

Less eSIM work for the service desk

With an operator directly integrated with Valvarius, this runs by itself. How it works for you also depends on your devices and your MDM.

New colleagues activate it themselves

The subscription can be ready before the first working day. On an iPhone with Jamf there is a button to activate it, in the employee's own language.

SIM swaps and PUK codes without the service desk

Employees sign in with their work account, see their own usage and can arrange a SIM swap themselves. The PUK code is there too.

A lost phone is quickly sorted

The new eSIM goes straight to the employee again, without calls and emails to the operator.

How does a business eSIM rollout work?

Valvarius sees a new employee as soon as their work account is created, and requests the line in time. On an iPhone managed by Jamf, a shortcut appears to activate the subscription, in the language set on the device. Without MDM, the employee gets an email to install the eSIM.

Registration then happens by itself. Employees arrange a SIM swap themselves in the portal, and that is processed automatically too. Everything can be traced per line.

At the first organisation that went live, the service desk no longer requests subscriptions and SIM swaps through tickets. New colleagues activate their own, and a few people keep an overview in the portal.

Can't Intune activate an eSIM itself?

Yes, on supported devices, with an activation code from the operator. But someone still has to request the eSIM, link it to the right employee and cancel the line when they leave. Valvarius does that, independently of Intune. The device remains managed by your MDM, whether that is Intune or Jamf. What happens to the line when someone leaves

A question for the service desk: how much time goes into eSIMs for new colleagues and replacement phones today?

A rough estimate is enough to see whether it is worth looking into.

Frequently asked questions

Does this work without MDM?

Yes

Without MDM, the eSIM reaches the employee by email. With Jamf, a shortcut appears on the device.

Does this work on Android too?

Yes

On Android, employees also install the eSIM themselves, with the code from the email.

Does it work in several languages?

With Jamf: yes

With Jamf, the activation appears in the language set on the device. Useful if you have sites in several countries.

What if we use Intune?

Then by email

Intune keeps managing the device; the eSIM reaches the employee by email. We are building eSIM delivery through Intune together with the first organisations that want it.

Do we have to switch operators?

No

You keep your operator and your contract. Valvarius is directly integrated with the operators our customers use today.

How much eSIM work could come off your service desk?

In a half-hour meeting we'll look at your devices, your MDM and your operator together. Afterwards you'll know which route fits you and what manual work remains. In the Netherlands we come to your office; elsewhere we meet on Microsoft Teams.
